About Articulation

Articulation refers to the process of evaluating courses, or a sequence of courses, to determine whether coursework offered at a "sending" institution (e.g. De Anza College) will meet specific course requirements at a "receiving" institution (e.g. CSU, UC, or private college or university) for the purposes of admission, general education (GE), lower-division major preparation and/or elective credit. Successful completion of articulated courses at De Anza College (DAC) assures students that identified courses will be credited toward baccalaureate degree requirements upon transfer to a college or university.

To determine if a DAC course is articulated with a college or university, it must appear on a formal articulation agreement between the two institutions. Students may still transfer successfully to four-year colleges and universities without any formal articulation agreements in place. Many private and out-of-state colleges and universities provide unofficial Transfer Guides or Transfer Credit Equivalencies which may provide students with general information regarding transferable coursework.

It is important to note that Transfer Guides and Transfer Credit Equivalencies are NOT articulation agreements and should be used as an advising tool in consultation with a DAC counselor or academic adviser or four-year transfer college or university admissions representative.

DAC has established formal articulation agreements with CSU and UC campuses and other regionally accredited four-year colleges and universities located both in and outside of California.

  • CSU/UC

ASSIST is a student-transfer information system that displays reports of how course credits earned at one California Community College (CCC) can be applied when transferred to a California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC) campus.

Articulation agreements between DAC and CSU and UC campuses may be viewed by major, by department (course-to-course), and, when available, by general education (GE)-breadth on ASSIST. NOTE: Articulation agreements are being published on the ASSIST website in phases as CSU and UC campuses continue to update their most recent agreements with CCC campuses as quickly as possible.

After utilizing the features currently available on ASSIST, students may also need to visit CSU/UC campus admissions websites to view campus-specific articulation agreements 'by Major' or 'by Department.' (IMPORTANT: Only 'By major' articulation agreements show which courses are required for a major.)

Additional information and updates about ASSIST wil be posted on our ASSIST News page.
