Poetry Assignment 2

Typed, printed out, and stapled. Do not forget to type the interpretation of your poem.
This assignment has two parts. The first part is a poem of between 100 and 150 words. The second part is two paragraphs that interpret the poem. Your interpretation must follow the guidelines below. Type your poem and interpretation and hand it in during class on May 3.
In this poem you will develop the story that you started with your passport poem. The basic idea is that poems in your group's video will be able to tell a story from multiple perspectives. Your second poem should be about a struggle that you encountered after you received a passport. The setting should not be an airport, and most likely you will not mention a passport in your poem.
I encourage you to write about struggles related to culture shock. The shock might be one of returning to school, work, and a routine; it might be the shock of learning a new routine; the shock might arise because of differences in the environments of where you were and where you went to; the shock might arise from dealing with differences in wealth and opportunities. You might also focus on particular scenes where you struggled to get basic needs met, such as health care, in an environment you were unfamiliar with, or you might write about how you have been misunderstood.
With regard to form, there are two guidelines in addition to the guidelines from Poem 1:
- Be intentional in your use of line breaks (verse).
- The first line should contain an image or use the same words as a line from the Poem 1 of one of your group members.
Interpretations
Your interpretation should consist of two paragraphs. In the first paragraph, discuss the artistic choices you have made. Make sure that your discussion identifies the line that you borrowed from your group member and the group member. Your discussion can be about any artistic choices, but the paragraph must state how you have used line breaks and images. In the second paragraph, restate what the poem says and give any information that you believe is necessary for interpreting the poem.
