About Me

"It ain't the things you don't know what gets you in deep trouble. It's the things you know for sure, but what ain't so." -- Anonymous

Gordon Smith is a long-time entrepreneur who has been an executive at several successful Silicon Valley start-ups. He is also passionate about working with environmental and educational non-profits. A father of two sons, one whom is still in college, he is a very active wilderness hiker, sailor and camper, and is especially enthusiastic about guiding visitors to experience the wonder of the elephant seals at Ano Nuevo State Park, where he is a volunteer naturalist.

Gordon has spent over 30 years in a variety of marketing, sales and business development positions with technology firms. Several of these were venture-funded technology startups, where he was VP of Marketing for Internet companies providing networking software, hardware and services, as well as for one which was a solar energy services company. Later, he consulted extensively, particularly in the renewable energy industry, which dovetailed with his strong commitment to environmental causes. Currently, he heads up marketing for another startup, this one in the cybersecurity industry.

It is these skills and experiences gained from working with new, fast-growing, scrappy companies which he would like to share with De Anza business students.
