Approval of Minutes
No changes or corrections were noted for the March meeting minutes.
Survey/Updated Technology Plan
Spatafore announced that due to the current circumstances, she and Pape had determined that it was best to postpone the survey until fall. Moreau added that ETAC had discussed the survey and adapting the needs survey for use by Central Service. Last month, ETAC voted to postpone the survey as well. Lene Whitney-Putz will be the point of contact at Foothill for technology planning. Spatafore suggested revisiting the survey around November (prior to Thanksgiving).
Faculty/Student Needs Surveys
The committee reviewed the results of the student and faculty needs surveys. Spatafore noted the high response rate. Grey commented on the increased number of online Bookstore orders. Gainer and Anderson spoke to shifts in the use of OER during remote learning. Moreau discussed ongoing national efforts to increase student Internet access. Regarding software, Luciw explained how students can get free access to the Adobe Creative Cloud suite.
Website Updates
Harrell demonstrated the new Quick Help tool on the website, which has been primarily staffed by web support technician Juan Diaz and communications associate Iman Seale. The tool allows users to ask a question (which gets emailed to the Web Team) and access useful information quickly. Harrell also previewed the Chat Bot that is in progress and slated to replace the Quick Help tool.
Technology tools/issues/success during transition to online
Brennan mentioned that most faculty have been appreciative of support they’ve received during the transition to remote learning. Hoang suggested reminding students of resources available to them. Cosgrove and Anderson both commented on the needs survey, with Anderson stating that it would be interesting to survey students and faculty again during summer or later after a longer period of remote learning. Spatafore recommended that faculty share information about available resources with students, going back to a point Cosgrove raised about students without internet access potentially missing out on the needs survey and resources.
Tech Plan updates
This item was deferred.
Standing updates
Spatafore noted that Tech Plan updates would be covered in the June meeting, as well as the annual governance reflections. Committee members briefly discussed CARES Act funding for students to use toward technology needs.
