Approval of Minutes

The February minutes were approved with minor edits.

Website Improvements

The Web Team developed a way for different Strategic Planning Initiative teams to make their action plans. They can put in information, organized by different quarters. They can view action plan in grid layout or in a timeline. Tri-chairs have an overarching view of the teams and action plans. It is not public facing and team members can only access their own page. However, it will be public facing soon. (Harrell)

The Web Team created a list of resources for web editors to help ensure accessibility. The Web Team page links to WebAIM (an accessibility project) tools and tutorials. Some of these tools include code validators and color checkers. (Diaz)

• • Nocito asks if the page can link to the canvas accessibility workshops. Diaz says this is possible.

The Web Team is also working on a new Professional Development website. (Spatafore)

Student Printing

Shannakian taked to Manny DaSilva in College Operations about making sure the information in MyPortal about E Printit locations is accurate. He also spoke to Justin Schultz in ETS about printing. E printit paper ordering will be available soon. When it’s ready, Shannakian will submit a request to the Web Team to update the MPS page with E Printit information. He is also looking into toner and if the college should stay with the E Printit system. (Shannakian)

Online Education 

Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) 

Pape thanks Nocito and Capurso for their work. Pape wants to make sure that all faculty have a chance to give feedback on RSI and asks committee to spread word. (Pape)

Online Education is giving RSI training to anyone that is interested. They are also working on more training and modules. (Nocito)

Academic Senate is having discussions about required RSI training (Nocito)

Online Education Advisory Group

Capurso is happy with discussions in Academic Senate. His goal is to make sure there is a balance with RSI training, which could be a mix of required and optional training.  All faculty have to meet RSI requirements, which is the law for all online and “distance education” courses. There will likely be more District and Academic Senate meetings in the spring, since Foothill and De Anza need to align their goals. (Capurso)

Pape is interested in proctoring software, and is excited about re-forming the Online Education Advisory Group. With the popularity of ChatGPT, Pape is also looking for other options that can mitigate cheating on exams, while still keeping them accessible. She also adds that more testing could be done through Canvas because it has been updated since the pandemic. (Pape)

Gainer is glad we are moving towards clarity on the topic. He also brings up equity concerns about proctoring software and how it collects and stores data. (Gainer)

The Online Education Advisory is being proposed to be a sub-committee of Academic Senate and it will be voted on at an upcoming meeting. (Nocito)

It will most likely be called COOL, and could follow either a division or Village model. (Capurso)

Spatafore asks if Classified Professionals will be on the sub-committee. (Spatafore)

Nocito responds that yes, it is the intention to have Classified Professional representation in the sub-committee.

ChatGPT

Nocito adds that ChatGPT is just one of many AI tools, but AI and generative AI in general is the issue. There is a task force in ETAC to address this. Nocito also hopes that clear policies about AI can also be put in place district-wide, that are not necessarily prescriptive or limiting. (Nocito)

Shannakian adds that there has been ChatGPT plagiarism in student elections, and hopes that the guidelines will apply to the student code of conduct, even outside of academics. (Shannakian)

Standing updates

Accessibility:

Updated mentioned in the Tech Plan, such as list of resources for web editors and regularly scheduled training from Online Education.

Banner Student:

Fraudulent enrollment is ongoingly being addressed through a collaboration between the academic division and ETS.

ETS Update:

ETS is continuing progress on the WiFi expansion project. Some buildings had to be taken out of Phase 1, but will be added later.

ETS is making progress with the KACE replacement, which will make requests easier and will consolidate Facilities tickets too.  (Metcalf)

ETS Project Scheduling:

Projects are being looked at in dean's meetings: nursing testing spaces and labs rennovation, A&R conference room and Windows 7 machines.
