From the President
In Support of Our Democracy
Jan. 6, 2021
Dear Students and Colleagues,
I want to acknowledge how deeply disturbing it was to witness the United States Capitol under siege today. Clearly, those actions – fomented at the highest level – were intended as a threat to our democracy. I know you join me in condemning the violence, condemning the lawlessness, and condemning the attempted de-legitimizing of democratic process.
Fortunately, this mob does not represent the vast majority of those who voted in the recent presidential election, the result of which was to be certified earlier today – a process which Congress will recommence tonight. The history of presidential transition in the U.S. has been a peaceful one. We must look toward the peaceful transition of power on Jan. 20.
With appreciation for our democracy,
Lloyd A. Holmes,
President
