We understand that your (or your parents’) financial situation may change due to unpredictable circumstances, and that your ability to pay for your education may be affected.
If you have special circumstances
Please contact the Financial Aid Office to discuss your situation. We may be able to recalculate your eligibility, based on the information and documentation that you provide.
Examples of special circumstances include
- Loss or reduction of employment or benefits, disability, loss of Social Security benefits
- Changes in family circumstances through divorce, separation or death
- Special medical or dental expenses
- Unusual debts
- Costs of private schooling for dependent
- Adult care costs
Your Student Aid Index (SAI), formerly known as your Expected Family Contribution, is generally calculated on the assumption that the student’s financial circumstances remain about the same from year to year. If a student’s financial situation changes significantly, the Financial Aid Office will use its professional judgment to reassess the SAI.
Depending on the circumstances, you may want to submit the Professional Judgment request form, which you will find on our Financial Aid Forms page.
You may turn the form into the Financial Aid Office at any time during the year. If you have any questions, please contact your De Anza Financial Aid Processor.
