NEW: Resources for Online Learning

LEAD Student Guides coverA group of LEAD peer mentors created these resources to support online learning to share with students and faculty members during this unprecedented time, when the college has shifted to online classes in response to coronavirus health directives. The resources were created by students enrolled in ICS 2B: Practicum in Peer Mentoring, Leadership and Community Building.


We believe that peer mentoring supports the vision and goal of the LEAD program by helping to create and sustain community visions, compassionate connections, loving acceptance, and reflexivity in the service of community building and change through social action.

Peer mentors support learners as they overcome hurdles in their educational path, while helping them contribute to a supportive community in the classroom and on campus.

Within the classroom, peer mentors engage with groups of learners, called familias, to help build a sense of community and to create a supportive learning space for all.

Peer mentors provide individual and group academic support in many ways, such as providing office hours, organizing group study sessions, responding to questions about the course or assignments, and initiating check-ins when learners miss class. 

group photoMentors also help learners to engage with the De Anza campus as a whole and the communities around De Anza. 

This level of community-building includes providing information on campus resources, such as campus events, campus offices, clubs, course offerings, equity resources, service learning projects. 

Peer mentors themselves are nurtured in their own journeys as they explore their understandings of leadership and mentoring through training sessions, coursework, discussions with instructors, and the community of peer mentors.
