This year's Silicon Valley Reads campaign will begin with a Feb. 1 event at De Anza's Visual & Performing Arts Center, where Mercury News columnist Sal Pizarro will lead an on-stage conversation with the authors of this year's featured books.

The DASB and Inter Club Council are sponsoring a series of midday concerts on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 8-10.

This fall, the California History Center at De Anza College is hosting "Ohlone Elders and Youth Speak: Restoring a California Legacy," featuring photography by Ruth Morgan and oral history gathered by Janet Clinger.

"Picturing Humanity: De Anza's Veteran Scholars" is an exhibit of larger-than-life photo portraits that will introduce you to some of the student veterans at De Anza.

A dramatic discovery in Kenya is shedding new light on the common ancestry of apes and humans, according to Dr. Isaiah Nengo, a De Anza College anthropology instructor and leader of the team that found a 13-million-year-old baby ape skull.

De Anza College supports its students, faculty and classified professionals who have family or friends affected by the disastrous hurricanes of recent weeks.
